The original footage for this project was captured throughout the day of Sept. 13th, 2001. Gathered from over 70 television stations, this video highlights the strangeness of those days of transition.
By resequencing snippets of popular media, I created a piece that reveals the emotion, irony, tackiness, and shock of the post Sept. 11th American landscape. Poised at the moment when television stations were cautiously returning to their normal broadcast material, the documentary is full of awkward and disturbing transpositions that reflect the stratagies of the media at the time.
One of the most revealing aspects of this project is illustrated by the flood of pyschological coping mechanisms that were being broadcast. From prestigious scientists to World Wide Wrestling stars, the media was saturated by celebreties offering some flavor of advice. Pictured here is a minister holidng a bunch of grapes and foretelling of the second coming of the Kingdom of Israel.
