2001: Odyssey Revisited is a series of images and sound extracted from DVD and digitally manipulated. The work seamlessly combines images from 2001: A Space Odyssey with images from popular media that reflect the events following September 11th. By intervening in this iconographic American film and transforming it into a reflection of the actual events of 2001, I am simultaneously commenting on our popularized representations of the future, as well as challenging the viewer to re-interpret our lived mythic reality of collective memory. There is more than superficial physical resemblance between the monolith of 2001 and the twin towers. Both monuments caused us to re-consider our place in history, and both set off a chain of events that reconfigured our understanding of the world.
