After the success of Piasa the year before, Dragonfly was created for the second annual SynchroniCity festival. In addition to implementing a much more complicated neon installation, I was also one of the primary designers of the sculptural figure.

Dragonfly collapsed in a fantastic manner that surprised all of us. The neon flickered on and off unexpectedly, sometimes jumping circuits to do so, teasing the crowd as they cheered along.

The effigy was aptly named. She was placed near the edge of a large lake, where real dragonflies swarmed. They were attracted to the other bugs that congregated around the light emitted from the neon. In this picture you can see a few dragonflies, but still images fail to properly portray how thick the swarm was around the figure.

After the effigy has burned to the ground, SynchroniCity participants are still gathered around the fire sharing the experience and sense of community created by the event.
