Icarus and the Phoenix was created by my partner and I in the online environment Second Life for the virtual Burning Man festival in 2009. It's meant to ironically recontextualize these classic myths by postulating what their washing might look like. We created an rusty backyard clothing hanger and festooned it with used wings. Viewers passing by were also able to pick up a set of wearable flaming wings that would rocket them into the sky, flying close to the ceiling of SL space, only to be left plummeting back down the next moment.
