Dragonfly - SynchroniCity 2003
Dragonfly was created for the second annual SynchroniCity festival in Kentucky. I fabricated and installed the neon detailing, and was also one of the primary designers of the sculptural figure. This effigy collapsed in a fantastic manner when it was burned. The neon flickered on and off unexpectedly, sometimes jumping circuits to do so, teasing the crowd as they cheered along.
The effigy was placed near the edge of a large lake, where real dragonflies swarmed. They were attracted to the other bugs that congregated around the light emitted from the neon, and the figure was surrounded by living echoes of her form. After the effigy had burned to the ground, SynchroniCity participants gathered around the fire that was left sharing the experience and sense of community created by the event.
